Some Comments from Arthur about the Web Site

After you read this I invite you to explore this site and from there experience some of the experiences of walking around the world. I have tried to share in this ‘Adventure Walking and Travel Tips' site some of the valuable things I have learned.

People have been beautiful to us around the world. I want to help ease the walking and travel burdens of fellow adventurers. Some of the things you may know, other things are new. We truly hope it helps you.

Now a Personal Word.

I walk for Jesus! At 5 am one morning, Jesus spoke to me, ‘Arthur, take the cross off the wall of your building, carry the cross on foot....identify my message on the highways, road-sides where the people are'.

Now, for over 38 years I have sought to be faithful to Jesus and that call. The walk from nation to nation and across continents has put me in touch with people in all their hurts, pain, struggles, dreams, wars, happiness, hunger, greed generosity, hate, and love. Sometimes I feel the 12 foot cross is the lightest weight I bear. I go with the cross, Jesus and love to people not just as a walker or traveler or adventurer - but as a pilgrim.

I have picked up pieces of bodies that were blown up and put them in piles. I have danced with celebrants at a wedding in Lebanon.

So out of God's love, His call, I have gone to people and now with Denise. That has sent me across deserts, into jungles and wars. It has led me to world leaders and unknown peasants the world over.

I have shared tips about food, drink, etc... but let me clearly state "I do not follow all the health tips".

In 1973, I was lying under a mosquito net in Freetown, Sierra Leone ready to start a walk across Africa. I had just been informed of all the horrible diseases there. "Don't eat the local food, don't drink the water, don't bathe in the rivers...there is malaria, yellow fever, cholera, etc..." I had 'no' supplies as I do today, I only had God. As I opened my Bible by candle light that first night, I read the words of Jesus from Luke the 10th Chapter "Go your way...whatever house you enter, first say "Peace to this house...remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give...Do not go from house to house...Whatever city you enter and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. Heal the sick who are there and say to them "the kingdom of God has come near you". That night I made a commitment to God to do what Jesus said.

  1. Enter the first house that invites me.
  2. Eat whatever is given before me.
  3. Drink whatever is given me.
  4. Pray for the sick there in the house.
  5. Say the Kingdom and God has come near.

Over and over again, around the world through the years I've eaten things I did not want to touch, and drank water I would not want to bathe in. I have said, "Lord Jesus, kill them all!" And quickly eat it and drink it. And by God's grace I've never been sick from food or water and parasites ...Jesus did it! I give Him all the credit.

Now where I have a choice, I choose healthy things, and we have had to be very careful with Denise's food and drink.

I want to clearly declare, Jesus is my Savior and Lord. I totally seek to follow Him, love God with all my heart and love others as myself. The Holy Spirit of God dwells in my heart and I know the constant, never changing presence of God. Jesus promised in Matthew. 2:8: "I will be with you always" How wonderful!
