Here see the resurrected
Jesus ascending from the top
of the Mt. of Olives while
his disciples stand and
watch him go into the
heavens. Before ascending he
told them to wait in
Jerusalem until they be
given power from on high
(the gift of the indwelling
Holy Spirit). After
receiving the Holy Spirit
they were able to preach the
gospel with great effect.
People were moved upon by
the by the Spirit and the
Word to repent of their
sins, believe on Jesus, and
be Baptized. This happened
on Pentecost which was 50
days from his resurrection.
This was the beginning of
the Church age which has
lasted approximately 2000
yrs. or until now. The
Church age is the time
period for the preaching the
Gospel message about Jesus
to the whole world. Jesus
lived his life on earth
under the law of Moses. He
was crucified, arose and
ascended under the law. The
church is first mentioned in
the 2nd chp. of Acts when
the Spirit filled apostles
began to preach the Gospel
and tell people how to be
saved.
The book of Acts is the
history of the early Church
and the lives of the
Apostles. Here we see the
birth and foundation of the
Christian Church. It was
in the city of Antioch that
people began to call the
followers of Jesus by the
name of Christians.
To day we are still living
in the Church age. It will
last until the rapture or
catching away of all the
born again believers to
heaven with Jesus.
Immediately after the
Christians are taken up the
dispensation of grace ends.(
grace is a time period where
people can receive mercy and
forgiveness of their sins by
the blood of
Jesus)
After the church has been
taken from the earth the
great 7 yr. tribulation
begins. It is the pouring
of judgment upon a Christ
rejecting world and those
who spurned and rejected
Jesus and his atoning
sacrifice for their sins.
Horrible earth quakes, wars
pestilence and other
judgments will destroy
approx. 2/3 of the earths
population.
